Paul McCartney will be getting a special honor at the upcoming NME Awards.
The former Beatle has been tapped to receive the Songwriter's Songwriter award, in recognition of his incredible career, contributions to music, and lasting influence on generations of musicians who followed him.
"NME" editor Mike Williams says the publication chose to present the rock legend with the special award after speaking with "the biggest and best musicians around," who all said "Paul McCartney is the world's ultimate songwriter." He adds that "Paul's enduring and stunning talent is worth celebrating," and he's "incredibly honored" to pay tribute to the rock legend in this way.
NME Awards 2014 will be presented in a ceremony in London on February 26th. McCartney is expected to be on hand to accept the award in person. Sir Paul is the third special award recipient to be revealed in advance of the ceremony. Other honorees include Blondie, who's been tapped for the Godlike Genius Award, and Damon Albarn, who's the inaugural winner of the NME Award for Innovation.
