    Ross rose to fame in the 1960s as part of the iconic R&B trio The Supremes.

    In 1993, she earned a Guinness World Record, due to her success in the United States and United Kingdom for having more hits than any other female artist in the charts with a career total of 70 hit singles.

    Various works have been inspired by Ross' career and life. Beyoncé's character Deena Jones in Dreamgirls was inspired by Ross herself.

    Ross is one of the few recording artists to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—one as a solo artist and the other as a member of The Supremes.

    Ross was married twice, has five children, and is the alternate guardian of Michael Jackson's three children.

    She has won seven American Music Awards, and won a Special Tony Award for her one-woman show, An Evening with Diana Ross, in 1977.

    In 1977, Motown acquired the film rights to the Broadway play The Wiz, an African-American reinterpretation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Diana was cast as Dorthy.
